Don’t mess with comic reviewers…learned that the hard way.

Drawing in public is beyond pretentious? WHAT!?!?
Haha, I knew this reaction was coming! Well it’s Thomas, after all. He’s not the nicest person on the planet. But I, personally, hate drawing in public. I don’t like how it feels and if someone looks over my shoulder it makes me uncomfortable. I can get over it when needed though (like back when I was in art class, or when we finally open up a booth at a con). But there are some people in this world who like to sit off to the side, take out there little sketch book, and start doodling away in hopes that someone will approach them and admire their work. The types of people who need praise and validation, it drives me nuts. I’m not saying that everyone who draws in public does it for attention, but I have known some who do. Here’s a similar story – I used to work as something of an artists assistant a couple years ago (and for a very short time). Sometimes, when the artist would finish a painting he would have me put it out in the hallway of his apartment building so that when neighbors passed by he could stop them to discuss the painting and await praise. It bothered me a lot, as I’m the complete opposite with my work. I put it out there, but I try not to cram it down everyone throat, especially if they are not that interested in art or comics. So yeah, some people are in fact pretentious about their public displays of their drawing abilities, but certainly not all (not to mention that some people sketch in public to help save time, like drawing at work or on the bus or what have you – that’s ok. But Thomas doesn’t think so, lol).
I don’t know if it’s pretentious or not, it’s just not for me. I used to hang out with Phil Foglio, and he can toss of a great drawing in seconds. He’s really amazing to watch. I can’t do it at all. Seriously. I just can’t come up with anything good. They best I might be able to produce is a rough outline. It’s kind of embarrassing. When I used to go to cons to promote Lyssa and the Pirates, people would give me their sketchbooks and I could barely do a decent drawing. Now, I heard about this person who could draw while hula-hooping, and that sounds pretty awesome.
Yeah, I’m kinda intimidated about the idea of people wanting me to do sketches when we someday have a booth at a con. It’s not something we’re seriously looking into at this moment, but I get really nervous whenever someone asks me to draw something on the spot. They’re always happy with whatever I do, of course, but I can’t up but then think to myself “YOU’RE OUT OF YOUR MIND IF YOU THINK THAT DRAWING ISN’T A PIECE OF CRAP!”
I love the dialogs in your comic, specially the ones pertaining this duo. His GF complements it really great too, nicely written.
Thanks, Locoma. We have Marisa, the writer, to thank for the wonderful dialogue and character relationships. I admire your collection of unknown comics at Anti Featured.Way to look out for the little guy!! Check it out, all!
Ahhh, Thomas is just all around pretentious. Especially with his Bright Eyes shrine, which is extremely creepy. XD
Niceeeeeee touch with the ears on the reviewer! They’re like, elf-y.
Yep – you can’t go to a con without running into rubber elf ears now and then! I honestly don’t wish to know what other sorts of prosthetic body parts people wear to cons…
Congrats to Marisa too then!
:3 thanks for checking out my little project!
